PREP ROUNDUP: Alimario’s Free Throws Lift Madonna

WEIRTON — Andrea Alimario overcame a rough start and an early injury as she drained two free throws with 55.3 seconds left as Madonna defeated Trinity, 39-37 in Monday’s OVAC Class A semifinal.

The Blue Dons will face Beallsville in the title game on Saturday at Ohio University Eastern.

Alimario supplied 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Blue Dons (16-4).

River 69, Steubenville Catholic 50

HANNIBAL — Lauren Flannery netted a game-high 23 points to pace River past Steubenville Catholic.

Alli Long and Carsyn Reynolds were strong for the Pilots (16-4) with 18 and 15 points, respectively.

For the Crusaders (11-8), Julia Zatta knocked down 21 points.

Bellaire 82, Union Local 53

BELLAIRE — Natalie Stoner compiled 21 points as Bellaire defeated Union Local.

Maci Crozier was also solid with 19 points and Michaela Fluharty had 12.

For the Jets, Allison Loase led the way with 12 points.

St. Clairsville 38, Martins Ferry 28

ST. CLAIRSVILLE–St. Clairsville did it with defense, not allowing Martins Ferry to reach double digits in any quarter in a victory.

Rileigh Simpson led way with nine points and Katie Strama turned in eight.

Madison Ging paced the Purple Riders with 10 points.

Brooke 61, Toronto 35

WELLSBURG — Brooke’s Hope Bowman shot her way into the history books as she secured her 1,000th point in a victory over Toronto.

The senior led the Bruins (4-12) with a game-high 30 points while Chloe Fox totaled 12.

For the Red Knights, Kendall Thomas netted 16 points.

St. John Central 39, Paden City 35

PADEN CITY — Kaylin Nixon totaled a game-high 26 points, 11 if which came in the first quarter as St. John (3-15) defeated Paden City.

Paige Leonard led the way for the Wildcats (5-11) with 11 points.

Frontier 51, Hundred 47

HUNDRED — Katherine Henderson and Mahalah Britton both supplied double-doubles, but Hundred fell to Frontier.

Britton stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points and 17 rebounds while Henderson compiled 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Hornets (6-12).

Valley 56, Bridgeport 51, OT

BRIDGEPORT — Jenna Dallison netted 16 points as Valley edged Bridgeport.

Caitlyn Underwood was also solid for the Lumberjills (7-9) with 11 points.

For the Bulldogs, four players scored in double figures including Angela Sommer (12), Briana Conaway (11), Kayleigh Roberts (10) and Jaren Tucker (10).

Steubenville 32, Monroe Central 30

STEUBENVILLE — Makayla Abrams compiled 19 points as Steubenville defeated Monroe Central.

For the Seminoles (11-10), Kalista Friday scored a team-high 12 points.

Buckeye Trail 63, Weir 29

WEIRTON — Sophia Mikula scored 17 points, but Weir (5-14) fell to Buckeye Trail.

Sam Canner led the way for the Warriors (11-4) with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Ashleigh Wheeler backed her up with 14.

SISTERSVILLE — Josey Jones compiled a game-high 35 points as Tyler Consolidated defeated Wirt.

JoLee Walton also was solid for the Silver Knights (11-8) with 15 points.

BOYS

Valley 82, Hundred 73

HUNDRED — Four Valley players scored in double figures as it defeated Hundred.

The Lumberjacks (4-14) also hit 12 3-pointers. Levi Anderson hit four bonus bombs for a team-high 20 points while Thomas Shannon tallied 19.

Ryan Baker netted 12 points and Avery Kinkaid totaled 11.

For the Hornets (7-8), Travis McCoy (19 points, 17 rebounds) and Andrew Zedell (11 points, 15 rebounds) both supplied double-doubles.

Logan Norris had a game-high 25 points and Cody Soles had 14.

St. Clairsville 71, Martins Ferry 56

MARTINS FERRY — Matt Busby paced St. Clairsville with 23 points as it defeated Martins Ferry.

Brett Vike, Justin Heatherington and Craig Bober all hit 14 points for the Red Devils (14-4).

For the Purple Riders (13-5), Dasyn Hores totaled 19 points while Logan Smith bucketed 15 and DeAndre Pugh had 12.
