PREP ROUNDUP: Magnolia Eliminates St. Marys in Sectional Baseball Action

ST. MARYS — Caden Cisar delivered what proved to be the game-winning hit in the eighth inning to lift Magnolia over St. Marys, 8-7, in eight innings in a Class A Region One, Section Two elimination game Tuesday.

Cisar accounted for two hits and three RBI and Jake Gamble provided two hits.

Silas McKeever plated a run on a triple, Austin Scheibelhood drove in a run and singled and Pat Mirandy added a triple for the Blue Eagles (10-16).

Magnolia will face Ritchie County today at 5 p.m. and will need two victories over the Rebels to win the sectional title.

Ohio Division II

St. Clairsville 1, John Glenn 0

NEW CONCORD — John Glenn Alex Kridelbaugh and St. Clairsville’s Dustin Carrothers battled for the right to advance to next week’s district competition.

Carrothers managed to come out on top in the tight battle, with the Red Devils able to push across the lone run of the game in the fourth inning to claim the sectional title.

St. C. moved into the Division II District semifinals where it will face Cambridge at 5 p.m. Monday at Indian Valley High School.

Kyle Storer led off the decisive fourth frame with a single off of Kridelbaugh and he promptly swiped second base to move into scoring position.

Carrothers followed with a single to advance Storer to third and Peyton Drake then delivered the game-winner, smacking a RBI single to center field to plate Storer with what proved to be the only run of the contest.

Carrothers tossed a complete game four-hitter, finishing with five strikeouts and a pair of walks to earn the win.

Matthew Busby led the St. C. offense with a double and single, with Drake stroking a double. The Devils also got singles from Storer, Carrothers and Tyler Tonkovich.

Cambridge 10

Harrison Central 0

CAMBRIDGE — Trent Valentine tossed a one-hitter, striking out 10 as Cambridge blanked Harrison Central at Don Coss Field.

Kobe Mitchell had the lone hit — a single — for the Huskies.

Cody Moore belted two singles and knocked in four runs for the Bobcats. Logan Tuttle had three singles and a RBI, while Cooper Kerns doubled, singled and plated a run.

Steubenville 18, Minerva 0

STEUBENVILLE — Luke Zorne led Steubenville to a dominating victory over Minerva with two singles, a triple and four RBI.

Clayton Criss supplied two doubles and three RBI and Ethan Duggan added two hits and three RBI for Big Red (19-6).

Division III

Martins Ferry 13, Tusky Valley 9

ZOARSVILLE — Martins Ferry exploded for five seventh-inning runs and rallied past Tusky Valley in an Ohio Division III sectional championship game.

The Purple Riders will meet Buckeye 8 foe Edison at 5 p.m. Monday in a district semifinal at Mingo.

Tusky Valley had plated five runs in the eighth before Martins Ferry (14-12) rallied.

Chase Goff had the big bat for the Purple Riders, knocking in five runs. He tripled and doubled.

Drake Dobson tripled and knocked in two runs, while Dasyn Hores slapped three doubles and also plated a pair.

Division IV

Steub. Catholic 5, Shadyside 1

SHADYSIDE — Noah Fayak brought home two runs and singled as Steubenville Catholic upended Shadyside in postseason action.

Matt Bell and Nick Kissinger each delivered a single and a RBI for the Crusaders.

Kelly Hendershot turned in a single, a double and a RBI and Anthony Coggins supplied two hits for the Tigers.

Toronto 10, Shenandoah 0

TORONTO –Nate Karaffa whiffed 10 hitters and walked one as Toronto bounced Shenandoah (13-12-1) from the Ohio playoffs.

Lucas Gulczynski tallied three singles and two RBI, while A.J. Clegg produced three hits and a RBI for the Red Knights (20-5).
