WVU examines crosswalks after 2 pedestrians struck
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia University officials are examining the crosswalks around the Morgantown campus following two accidents where pedestrians were hit.
Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Rob Alsop said they have begun working with municipal authorities on ways to increase safety while police are still investigating both accidents.
According to WVU, student Leah Berhanu was killed Feb. 1 as she was crossing Patteson Drive near Evansdale Crossing.
On Tuesday morning, Morgantown police say 20-year-old Sara Queen of Weston was crossing Monongalia Boulevard at Evansdale Crossing when she was hit by a pickup truck.
WDTV reports she was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital for surgery, where she remains in critical condition.
The intersection has a traffic light. Police say Queen was inside the crosswalk.
