West Virginia man dies after going in river to help child

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. (AP) — Search crews have found the body of a West Virginia man who disappeared in New River Gorge National River where he went in to help a child.
The park said the body of 49-year-old Terrance Bell of Oak Hill, West Virginia, was located Monday morning in the river where he disappeared Sunday evening.
The park said in a news release that Bell was at a picnic with family and friends at Fayette Station public river access when they noticed the child had gone into the river. The release said Bell and two other adults attempted rescue.
The child and two adults made it safely to shore, but Bell disappeared below the surface. None of the adults was wearing a life jacket.
Searchers looked for Bell until dark and returned Monday, when the body was found.
