Boggs, TC Hope Success Rubs Off

KIDWELL — As usual, Coach Richard Summers’ Tyler Consolidated volleyball team has cut into practice for the girls’ basketball team with another run to the state tournament.

And, as usual, fourth-year coach Cathy Boggs and assistant Ben Thomas couldn’t be happier about their success and the attitude those girls bring to the basketball team when they do arrive.

“We have three starters on the volleyball team and they are coming off what has become an annual trip to the state tournament,” Boggs said. “These girls work so well together at everything they do and we hope that success rolls right over into basketball season.”

Leading the way is the one returning starter that is not on the volleyball team, senior Amanda Reynolds, who has already been inked to continue her basketball career at Bethany next year.

“I couldn’t be prouder, and there couldn’t be a harder working kid than Amanda,” Boggs said. “For four years she has been the first to show up at the gym and the last to leave, going through her own ballhandling or shooting workouts, in addition to our 2-3 hours of practice.”

Joining her are that trio of junior netters, Josey Jones, Peyton Kocher and JoLee Walton. The remaining starter looks to be coming down to another pair of juniors in Miranda Weekley and Cora Grimm.

“While my volleyball players bring a winning attitude, Miranda and Cora gave us us a lot of quality minutes last year and are really impact players,” Boggs said. “We will be counting on them again this season.”

Another returnee, who took last season off but is another volleyball player, is 6-foot forward Alexa Johnson.

Rounding out the Silver Knights’ roster are senior Belle Pettus; sophomores Allie Miller, Summer Miller, Madison Craven, Heidi Dennis and Shiann Jones along with freshmen Kelsi Vandruff, Eden Turner, Regan Smit, Lexi Southerly, Zoie Mudd, Hallie Placer, Hailey Lane and Mackenzie Perine.

“Coach Thomas and I are looking forward to this season with the girls,” Boggs said. “They are a very talented and hard-working group.”
