Terrills Mark 50 Years

Charles and Helge Terrill of Wheeling celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Thursday, June 11.

They were united in marriage by German law on June 11, 1965 at the city hall in Nellingen, Germany. They were united in marriage by U.S. law on June 26, 1965 in the chapel at Nellingen Army Base by Chaplain Milton A. Anderson.

Charles Terrill was born in West Virginia, the son of Russell E. Terrill and Betty Boyd. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in November 1962 at Fairmont and retired in June 1990 as a command sergeant major with 28 1/2 years of service. He is a graduate of Columbia College in Columbia, Mo. After retiring, he worked until April 2007 as a claims processor for West Virginia Division of Veterans Affairs.

Helge Terrill was born in Lampertheim, Germany, during World War II, the daughter of the late Ludwig and Katharine Rupp. She worked in a furniture factory and then in the Army Air Force Exchange Services until her husband retired. She became an American citizen in 1977.
