George and Sally Gray Schmalz of Wheeling celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 26.

They were united in marriage on June 26, 1971, at the Christ United Methodist Church in Wheeling. The Rev. F. Emerson Wood officiated the ceremony.

Sally is the daughter of the late Calvin and Odessa Gray. She retired as a kindergarten teacher from McNinch Elementary in Moundsville after 33 years of service.

George is the son of the late George and Helen Schmalz. He retired as an ironworker from Local 549. Since retirement they have been avid travelers from the U.S. to Italy, and are pictured at their son’s wedding in San Diego, Calif.

They have three children which include George (Lysa Le) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Allyson (Adam) Hince of Cranberry, Pa.; and Erik (Jen Berkebile) of State College Pa.; and three grandchildren, Adelyn, George and Alexander.

They will celebrate with their family at a private gathering.
