Hip-hop Gets Its Day

Hip-hop music and culture will take the spotlight on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the McLure Hotel during the first Ohio Valley Hip-Hop Awards.

Show of Hands: Downtown Wheeling, Hot Rod Tattooing & Body Piercing and The Movement are sponsoring the awards show that supports local artists in categories including: Best Artist, Best New Artist, Best Duo or Group, Lyricist of the Year, Mixtape/Album of the Year and Video of the Year. All nominees and categories are listed online at www.ovhiphopawards.com.

This event will celebrate more than music. There will be a Ms. OV Hip-Hop modeling competition, sponsored by Cloud 9: A Bridgette McLeod Salon of Martins Ferry. The youth (17 and under) and the adult (18 and older) winners will be announced at the ceremony. Other non-musical awards being presented that night are Best Venue/Nightclub, Best Retail Shop, Hip-Hop Pioneer and Hip-Hop Is Universal awards. These awards are designed to honor businesses, community members and young people that embrace the culture and music involved with hip-hop in the Ohio Valley.

In addition to honoring artists, the evening will include performances by Corey Vance, LaRon, Loe Mook, Elias, Shanne Gain, GrindTeam, DJ Youngblood, Young Jenny, I.A.N., J. Buck and Joshua Heatherington.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The awards show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door and are available at DL’s Hair & Clothing on Market Plaza in downtown Wheeling. For ticket and show information, call Ron Scott Jr., 304-281-7020 or themovement304
