Film Showing

The Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, 700 Fifth St., will offer a special after-hours film presentation of “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” rated R, in the library’s lower level at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The film showing is free and open to the public. Attendees may bring snacks and seat cushions. Anyone in need of the chair-lift should arrive by 5:50 p.m. or earlier.

Library Closure

The Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, will be closed Monday in observation of Memorial Day. Normal library hours will resume Tuesday.

Lunch With Books

Writer Chris Rodell of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, will return to Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Tuesday to share stories from his new book, “Arnold Palmer: Homespun Stories of The King.”

In this volume, the journalist drew upon more than 100 interviews with the golf great conducted over 20 years.

Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Attendees may bring a bag lunch; complimentary beverages are provided.


A lecture series at Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex, 801 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, will continue at 7 p.m. Thursday. Susan Weaver, director of the Museum of Ceramics in East Liverpool, will discuss “East Liverpool Potters Southbound to West Virginia.”

The program is free and open to the public.


Valley Hospice will hold its fifth annual “A Hero’s Salute” Memorial Day concert and celebration at 7 p.m. Thursday at Warren Township Park in Tiltonsville. The concert, featuring music by the Buckeye Local High School jazz band, is part of the park’s summer concert series.

The concert is free of charge and open to the public. Concessions will be available. There is no seating, so guests are advised bring lawn chairs.

Fish Fry

A fish fry event will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 710 Jefferson Ave., Glen Dale, from 11 a.m. to 6 pm. Friday. Call 304-845-2646 for local delivery if ordered by 10 a.m. for lunch and by 3 p.m. for dinner.

Indoor Yard Sale

First Presbyterian Church, St. Clairsville, will have an indoor yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Food will be available for purchase. Set-up will take place Friday. To reserve tables, call the church office, 740-695-0690.

Book Sale

The Catholic Women’s Club will hold a used book sale in the top parking lot at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wolfhurst, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. next Sunday.

Garden Planting

The interpretive garden at Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex, 801 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, will be planted from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. The program is free and open to the public.

Guests will plant crops chosen for the garden based on archaeological data and Native American traditions, such as sunflowers, corn, beans, squash and gourds. Visitors can plant seeds in small hills of earth using a replica of a prehistoric stone garden hoe.

In the museum’s activity room, an educational display of seeds, books and other items will be provided courtesy of Marian Meg Phillips, along with activities relating to the interpretive garden.

Rummage Sale

A rummage sale will be held in the parish hall of Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 2216 Eoff St., Wheeling, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 8 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 9. Cedar Cllub members will sell concession-style food. For more information, call 304-242-6853.

Computer Help

The Follansbee branch of the Brooke County Public Library will offer computer help with resumes and online job applications from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Wednesday. Space is limited and registration is required. To register, call the circulation desk, 304-527-0860.

Book Club

The Brooke County Public Library’s book club will meet at the library, 945 Main St., Wellsburg, at 5 p.m. Thursday to discuss “Princess Found” by Sarah Culberson. Participants will receive the June book, “Obituary Writer” by Ann Hood, at this meeting. The book club is free and open to the public.


National Eagle Scout Association chapter of the Ohio River Valley Council will hold a picnic for all Eagle Scouts at Sandscrest Scout Reservation, 192 McColloch Drive, Wheeling, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. next Sunday. There is no cost to Eagle Scouts. Reservations are to be made by Wednesday by calling the scout office at 304-277-2660 or by email at 619Rsvp.Events@scouting .org.

The association will provide opportunities for scholarships and for volunteering within the council. The chapter will have a limited-edition Eagle Scout Council shoulder patch available for purchase.

Parent Support Group

A parent support group will meet in the OVerlook Cafeteria’s conference room A at Ohio Valley Medical Center, 2000 Eoff St., Wheeling, from 6-7 p.m. June 4.

The group is for parents and guardians of children and adolescents who are experiencing mental or behavioral health issues or substance abuse concerns. For more information, call John Antal, 304-217-3109.
