Emmy Award Winning Jazz Band to Play at Stifel Center

WHEELING — Jazz artist Jimmy Sapienza and his band, Five Guys Named Moe, will perform at Oglebay Institute’s Stifel Fine Arts Center at 8 p.m. Jan. 12 as part of this year’s Jazz at the Stifel music series.

Sapienza and his band are known for outstanding performances and world-class sound. The Moe repertoire is comprised of hundreds of songs that include swing and pop standards, jazz, big band, rhythm and blues, Latin and classic rock.

Sapienza is a dynamo combination of vocalist and actor who can croon and shout the blues with conviction. Jimmy is a naturally comedic frontman and master of ceremonies with an easy and slightly off-beat delivery that is reminiscent of the classic “Saloon Singer.”

In 2007, Sapienza won an Emmy Award for his participation in the WQED Multimedia television show “Live From Studio ‘A.'” His rendition of “Just A Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody,” along with outstanding performances by other great Pittsburgh artists, won the Emmy in the category of “Arts Program or Special.”

Upcoming performances in this year’s jazz season include Boilermaker Jazz Band, February 9 and the Peck Family Jazz Band March 9.

The 100-year-old Stifel Fine Arts Center is the former home of one of Wheeling’s most prominent families and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
