Newcomers Club

The Wheeling Newcomers Club will hold a meeting and luncheon at Belmont Hills Country Club, St. Clairsville, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The program will feature Stacy Deitz, owner of Ditto, A Repeat Boutique. She will discuss how she decided to open this Wheeling shop, how items are accepted and her current inventory. She also is a principal at two elementary schools.

Sand Hill Club

The Sand Hill Community Educational Outreach Service Club will hold its summer picnic at the home of Betty Welsh at noon Tuesday. Members are to bring a covered dish.

Becky McCord will present the lesson, “Monarch Butterflies.”

Lunch With Books

Readings from “Pine Mountain Sand & Gravel: Homegrown Revolution — Appalachia Acting Up” will be presented at Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Tuesday.

The presentation will feature Scott Hanna, Richard Hague, Larry Smith, Kari Gunter-Seymour, Sherrell Wigal, Omope Carter Daboiku and Marc Harshman.

Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Attendees may bring a bag lunch; complimentary beverages are provided.

Meatloaf Dinner

Warwood United Methodist Church, 1438 Warwood Ave., Wheeling, will hold a homemade meatloaf dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Take-out meals will be available without beverage. Dinner will be served rain or shine.

The U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors will perform for the free Toe Tappin’ Tuesdays concert at Garden Park at 7 p.m.

Workshop

A Lunch and Learn workshop will be presented at Harrison Community Hospital’s cafeteria in Cadiz from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Amy Beaver, speech-language pathologist at Harrison Community and Wheeling Hospital, will discuss potential speech and swallowing problems that are seen commonly in individuals with Parkinson’s disease.

The workshop is free to the public. Attendees may bring their own lunch or purchase a meal in the cafeteria. A snack and beverages will be provided. Reservations are not needed.

Weirton Greek Festival

The 32nd annual Weirton Greek Festival will be presented at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Food and pastries may be eaten in the air-conditioned hall or outside. The entire outside festival area is covered with tents. Take-out orders are available. Credit cards are accepted at the gyro booth and at the inside food and pastry lines.

The festival also has daily entertainment including a disc jockey in the afternoon, the Greek Company Orchestra playing at 6 p.m. and the Aegean Dancers performing at 7 p.m.

Fort Henry Piecemakers

The Fort Henry Piecemakers quilt guild will meet Thursday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 141 Kruger St., Wheeling, for the group’s annual picnic. The meal will be served at 6 p.m. Games and activities will be offered after dinner.

Members are asked to bring a “well-filled” covered dish, a chance auction item, a silent auction item and money.

Genealogical Society

The Wheeling Area Genealogical Society will meet in the auditorium at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at 1 p.m. Saturday.

In celebration of Wheeling’s 250th anniversary, the group is offering a monthly lecture series, Wheeling’s First Families, focusing on families that settled Wheeling. On Saturday, Joe Roxby, Ohio County magistrate, author and local historian, will give a presentation on “The Lewis Wetzel Family.” All programs are free and open to the public.

Summer Reading

The summer reading program, “A Universe of Stories,” at the Brooke County Public Library and its Follansbee branch features space-themed programs.

“Reading Is Out of This World” storytime, with space-related crafts and Target Skills Astronaut Training, will be offered at the Follansbee branch at noon Monday and at the Wellsburg library at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

A summer space movie, “Home,” rated PG, will be shown at the Follansbee site at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Children may create a sand art picture during Space Fun & Lunch at the Wellsburg library at noon Thursday.

A workshop, “There’s No Place Like Space Teddy Bear,” will be offered at the Wellsburg library at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

A Family Movie Day showing of “Dumbo,” rated PG, will be presented at the Wellsburg library at noon Friday.

Share Support Group

Share, a support group open to anyone coping with fetal loss, will meet in Wheeling Hospital’s conference room C at 6 p.m. Monday. For more information, call 304-243-6367.

Blood Cancer Support Group

Wheeling Hospital’s Blood Cancer Support Group will meet in conference room D at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Patients, family members, friends, caregivers and health care professionals will receive updates on blood cancers. The group provides support following a diagnosis of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, myeloma and MDS. For more information or to register, call 1-412-395-2882.
