Local Bands to Perform at Wheeling SleepOut
At the Wheeling SleepOut, while participants are crafting cardboard creations, they will be entertained by local musicians the?Sarah Hays Band, Hit Play and the Muddle.
The Wheeling SleepOut will take place Nov. 7-8 at the I-470 Ballfields in the J.B. Chambers Sports Complex.
The event raises funds for Youth Services System’s work with homeless youth. Individuals create teams, raise funds, build a BoxedIn Design entry and sleep out for the night.
The Sarah Hays band will perform at 6:45 p.m. The 8 p.m. opening ceremony will feature Miss West Virginia Paige Madden sharing her message that “Silence Hides Violence.” Following the opening, Hit Play will take the stage. The Muddle will bring their acoustic rock to the crowd at 9:30 p.m.
Participants in this event will be competing for trophies in the BoxedIn Design contest. Using cardboard, duct tape, chalk and imagination, teams will create dwellings for the night using the SleepOut theme: Piecing It All Together. This refers to the many reasons why young people end up out of their homes-poverty, substance abuse, violence, gender and sexual identity issues, among them. Those interested can find out more, register or donate at www.wheelingsleepout.org.
Wheeling SleepOut sponsors include Gumbys, Olive Garden, Long Horn Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Uniglobe Travel (grand prize sponsor), Northwood Health System, Gold, Khourey & Turak, Wayne and Carolyn Smith, and WTRF.
