Festival of Sound, Winter Programs Set

Ohio County Schools is celebrating the season through the sound of music with the 20th annual Wheeling Park High School Festival of Sound.

Wheeling Park High School’s Festival of Sound opened Thursday, and two more performances of the much anticipated event will be held tonight and Sunday, Dec. 14 at the J.B. Chambers Performing Arts Center.

Tonight’s performance begins at 7 p.m., and Sunday’s performance begins at 2 p.m. The Festival of Sound features many music ensembles and beloved holiday songs.

Wheeling Park High School Band Director David Alfred said the professional-level performances by the school’s students have amazed audiences for two decades. He said the success of the Festival of Sound is the result of the talent and dedication of the students who take part in the annual holiday event.

“You don’t see a lot of schools doing something on this scale throughout the country,” Alfred said. “We have something special here that gets its start in the earlier grades, and I believe what we are doing here at Wheeling Park is truly exceptional. The performance is amazing, and it’s made even more special because it being done by teenagers. Everyone should experience it.”

Tickets for the Festival of Sound are available until 3:30 p.m. at the front office at Wheeling Park High School and until to 4 p.m. today at the Ohio County Board of Education office at 2203 National Road.
