Week-Long Children’s Theater Camp Is Offered at the Strand
MOUNDSVILLE — The Strand Theatre has been awarded a grant from the BB&T Evan G. Roberts Charitable Trust to bring the Missoula Children’s Theatre program to Marshall County for the eighth consecutive year.
Missoula Children’s Theatre is a professional children’s theatre company based in Missoula, Mont., that travels across the country to bring fun and engaging theatre education workshops to students of all ages. Two trained and enthusiastic teacher/directors will spend an entire week with local students, teaching them about theatre while rehearsing for a final show at the conclusion of the camp.
Thanks to the grant from the Evan G. Roberts foundation, the MCT camp is free for participating students, ensuring that family income does not inhibit any interested students from being a part of the production. In past years, the camp has reached its full capacity, with more than 60 students partaking in the program.
This year’s production will be “Jack and the Beanstalk.” Among the roles to be cast are Jack, mother, Milky White, the magic harp, farmers, merchants, the giant, Jill, circus performers and wonder beans. All students, from those entering first through recent high school graduates, are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary; students need only come to auditions from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 24. The staff recommends arriving about 15 minutes early to complete necessary paperwork.
The final production of “Jack and the Beanstalk” will be performed for the public at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 29. For more information about the camp or the production, visit strandtheatrewv.com or facebook.com/strandtheatrewv.
