Campfire Storytelling To Return to Grand Vue Park in Moundsville

Rich Knoblich returns to Grand Vue Park for Campfire Storrytelling on Thursday, Oct. 10.

MOUNDSVILLE — Grand Vue Park in Moundsville kicks off a series of free Campfire Storytelling events from 7 p.m. to about 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Aerial Adventure Base Camp, also known as Shelter 1.

Gathering around a crackling campfire and sharing tall tales and spooky legends is a fun and relaxing tradition enjoyed by young and old alike. Officials at Grand Vue Park said they are pleased to once again offer this family-friendly event featuring local storyteller Rich Knoblich. Knoblich’s appearance is sponsored by the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. The next Campfire Storytelling events are planned for Oct. 17 and Oct. 24, also starting at 7 p.m.

Knoblich’s repertory for storytelling performances includes many traditional folktales and ghost stories, with material suitable for all ages.

Knoblich’s original Appalachian-styled tall tales serve up great humor and homespun charm, making them audience favorites. He’s captured some of these stories in his book “Talking ‘Bout the Relatives: Tales that Grow Taller With Each Telling.” Knoblich also offers lively accounts of unusual true and legendary events from local history. The former school teacher is a long-time popular performer at many local venues, as well as at festivals, conferences and workshops throughout West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and beyond. Knoblich was honored with the McWhorter Achievement Award for storytelling, an award given annually to an individual who has excelled in storytelling activities. He has been a regular featured performer at the WV Storytelling Festival as well as a frequent judge and ribbon-winner for the Biggest Liar contest at the Vandalia Gathering in Charleston, W.Va.

Anyone planning to attend is welcome to bring snacks and beverages. Benches are available in Shelter 1, but lawn chairs and blankets can also be brought if they are preferred.

Grand Vue Park and the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library are pleased to partner to make possible these Campfire Storytelling events. They are free and open to the public.
