Most Wicked Halloween Party in Wheeling Returns

Shadows Ball: Costume Party and Sideshow Extravaganza Is Saturday

This ghoulish creation by Zachary Michael will appear in his ‘The Circus Macabre’ puppet show during the upcoming Shadows Ball at the Stifel Fine Arts Center in Wheeling.

WHEELING — Oglebay Institute is hosting the most wicked Halloween party in Wheeling. The fourth annual Shadows Ball brings a night of thrills, chills, sideshow, burlesque, costumes and rock-n-roll.

It takes place from 7 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, Oct. 19, at OI’s Stifel Fine Arts Center, one of Wheeling’s grand, historic mansions.

Back by popular demand, Pittsburgh’s Kabarett Vulgare returns to entertain guests with a variety of sideshow and burlesque acts. Harkening back to the days of the classic 10-in-one sideshow and served up with all the decadence of a Weimar era cabaret, Kabarett Vulgare takes the best of both worlds and delivers a night of performance not soon to be forgotten.

The ever-blossoming, Pittsburgh-based psychedelic jam/funk/rock band HABATAT will perform throughout the evening and the dance floor will be open.

HABATAT has made positive strides in the Pittsburgh suburbs sharing stages with the likes of Twiddle, Heavy Pets, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Zach Deputy. Combining gritty sultry vocals by Ryan Woods, colorful funky bass riffs from Kris Lupher, soulful solos from Cory “Gweedo” Mickinak, powerful dance/funk grooves by J. Banks and provocative horns from Josh Covert, this group leaves audiences floored with their energetic live performance.

This year’s Shadows Ball entertainment lineup also includes an eerie puppet show — “The Circus Macabre” — created by local actor, artist and playwright Zachary Michael. Guests will also view lifelike SFX creature creations from Bixby Studios, a Morgantown-based creative production company that specializes in building props for the haunt industry.

In addition to entertainment, guests at the Shadows Ball will enjoy a buffet of food, drinks and a judged costume competition with prizes.

General admission tickets are available, as are VIP tickets which include reserved seating for the sideshows and puppet shows. Costumes are required for entry. The Shadows Ball is open to guests age 18 and older only. There will be no entry without appropriate identification.

Tickets can be purchased at www.OIonline.com or by calling 304-242-7700.

All proceeds from the event directly support the Stifel Fine Arts Center.
