December Gallery Hop to Feature Works by New Member Artists

"Tuscan Village" by Dallin Evans

WHEELING — Every December, new artists who have been juried in to Artworks during the year have a show in the Studio Gallery. This year, three talented people will present their work during this special exhibit. Beverly West, Karen Catlett and Dallin Evans will be present to greet the public at a free reception during the Gallery Hop on Friday, Dec. 6.

The Student Gallery will feature the works of students from Martins Ferry Middle and High Schools under the direction of Natalie Zambori.

Bev West is part of a very creative family. Her three older sisters were her earliest inspirations. She has been interested in fiber art ever since high school starting with sewing and knitting and as an adult moving on to weaving and macrame. Recently, she has been focusing on wall hangings and home decor.

Wheeling native, Karen Catlett creates wonderful paintings and unique jewelry made by weaving beads together. Catlett has studied with some of America’s finest watercolor artists. Her style is a harmonious balance of emotional energy and visual beauty and she draws on her love of nature and vast travel experiences for her subject matter. Her works have won numerous awards and have been exhibited widely. She has conducted workshops and programs for numerous art leagues and civic groups across the country.

Dallin Evans is the featured “Emerging Artist” at Artworks. Originally from a small town in southern Arizona, he studied watercolor and Bauhaus style printmaking at Southern Virginia University. He then pursued a masters in architecture from Syracuse University in New York. He is currently a Generation West Virginia Fellow, a program which invites young talent to the mountain state to live and work. He is working as a junior architect for McKinley Architects and Engineers. He states that the artwork helps him with stress. His work is fresh and vibrant.

Artworks is a gallery and education center dedicated to serving artists and the community. Located at 2200 Market St. in Wheeling’s Historic Centre Market, hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. except for Friday when closing is at 6 p.m.
