WHEELING — Redheads will unite in Wheeling this weekend for the first Ohio Valley Redhead Festival.

Festivities take place from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the YWCA in Wheeling.

This is the first festival of its kind in the quickly growing and expanding Ohio River Valley, and redheads are expected to attend in large numbers. Organizers are using the event to raise skin cancer awareness that plagues the redhead population with fair skin. The proceeds made during this event will be used to help funding for programs targeting bullying directed at redheaded children and youth.

Vendors and the following activities will be available on hand during the festival:

¯ Gathering for the Guinness Book of World Records for most natural redheads in one place

¯ Highland Games (shot put and tug-o-war)

¯ Redhead-related products for sale

¯ Dermatologist booth for pre-screenings for skin cancer/sunscreen samples

¯ Kid activities (face painting and games)

¯ Contests for attendees (Redhead that traveled the farthest for event, most freckles in a 1-inch square)

¯ Stop redhead bullying information table

¯ Presentation about the history of Scottish and Irish immigration to the United States
