Wetzel County Christmas Parade, More on Saturday
NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the fifth annual Christmas Activities Day and Parade on Saturday, Dec. 7, in downtown New Martinsville.
The day will begin with breakfast at the ACTs Mission Church, 400 Main St., and will continue with a variety of crafts, performances and activities designed to bring out the Christmas spirit in kids and parents alike.
At 6 p.m., the day will reach its crescendo as citizens will line Main Street to watch the annual Christmas parade. Following the parade, there will be the official tree lighting and concerts by local bands including the Paden City High School Keynote/Christmas Concert at the Lincoln Theater, 242 Main St.
As families arrive to participate in the day’s events, they will receive a map, courtesy of RCS Printing. This map will have a schedule showing the time and location of all the events that are planned. An updated list of those events can also be found at www.wetzelcountychamber.com.
Each activity a child participates in will earn him or her a sticker on the map. Once the map is completed, or the parent is exhausted, the child can take the map to “Santa’s Workshop,” 301 N. Main St., to select a prize from Santa based on how many stickers that have been collected.
Additionally, there will be a craft and vendors show running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be more than 20 different crafters and other vendors signed up for this event, including Relay for Life which will be selling food to raise money for cancer research. This show will be located in the old “Fusion” building at the corner of Jefferson and Main streets at 271 N. Main St.
This year’s Christmas Activities Day and Parade is slated to be the biggest and best one yet. Organizers said they would like to acknowledge all those who have worked to make this day possible, including all of the volunteers that have given their time to plan and execute this day of celebration, business that donated money toward the event and Main Street businesses that make it all happen. This is truly and event that requires the entire community to come together to make happen.
