Classical Guitar Quartet to Play At Lunch With Books
WHEELING — Quaternaglia Guitar Quartet, one of the world’s top guitar ensembles, will perform at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Lunch With Books program at the Ohio County Public Library in downtown Wheeling.
Composed of Brazilian guitarists Chrystian Dozza, Fabio Ramazzina, Thiago Abdalla and Sidney Molina, QGQ, the group has established a wide canon of original pieces and ambitious arrangements through collaboration with top composers over the past 25 years. The quartet was awarded the “Ensemble Prize” at the Havana International Guitar Contest in 1998. Since then, they have regularly performed in various notable guitar and chamber series in the United States and the world. QGQ will play music from their fourth album, which includes works dedicated to the quartet by Leo Brouwer and Javier Faras, as well as bold arrangements of “Four for Tango” by Astor Piazzolla, and the “Symphonic Dances” of West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein. Quaternaglia has also conducted master classes and lectures at various institutions, including Yale University and the Coimbra Conservatory. Based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the QGQ musicians use guitars custom-made by renowned Brazilian guitar maker Sergio Abreu.
Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Unless otherwise noted, they begin at noon on Tuesdays in the library’s auditorium. Attendees are welcome to bring a bag lunch, and complimentary beverages are provided.
