MOUNDSVILLE — Mystery Theatre Unlimited’s original musical comedy dinner theatre production “Popguy the Sailor Man” will be presented at the Vue Bar and Grill in Grand Vue Park at 7 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 21. The family-friendly original comedy features musical parodies and interactive opportunities for audience members, along with a mystery to solve, all in the context of a full meal.

In the show, which is the 50th collaboration between writers Butch Maxwell and Bert Furioli, the iconic tough seafarer (played by Brendan Sheehan) has disappeared. His hamburger-loving friend, Gimpy (portrayed by Dustin Heavilin), has moved into his house and his girlfriend, Olive Mohel (played by Megan Ross), is about to marry his rival, Bruto (portrayed by Evan Oslund). Also in the cast is Maxwell, who plays the villain Sea Nag.

When Poguy suddenly returns, it all leads to a fight to the finish — with or without spinach! Along the way, several parodies of popular songs sprinkle in more comedy.

Several audience members will be chosen to play small parts in the show. All audience members are encouraged to gather and share clues and to question suspects. The characters will interact with the audience in an unscripted pre-show mingle.

The Wheeling-based ensemble has been writing and performing original comedy murder mysteries since 1996. Performances include audience interaction and the opportunity to solve a murder mystery, along with a two-course buffet, and take place in a dining room, with actors moving among the tables.
