GAINESVILLE, Fla. — For the first time ever, the estate of Tom Petty is working alongside fans and engaging with the music community to celebrate and pay tribute to the legendary musician tonight.

In 2017, the first annual Tom Petty Birthday Bash debuted in Petty’s hometown of Gainesville, Fla. Fans gathered for the free, six-hour show of all Petty tunes, performed in the legendary musician’s honor. The celebration has grown into a fully-fledged music festival featuring local as well as national acts, with fans traveling across the country to celebrate the life and legacy of Petty, who died unexpectedly on Oct. 2, 2017.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s special Tom Petty Birthday Bash, honoring what would have been his 70th birthday (on Oct. 20), will be held virtually from 430-9:30 p.m. today with five hours of performances, testimonials and tributes to Petty from friends and fans alike, including Stevie Nicks, Chris Stapleton, Post Malone, Foo Fighters, The Killers, Norah Jones, The Raconteurs, Jason Isbell, a very special performance by his bandmates, Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench.

Musician performing and stars scheduled to make special guest appearances during this livestream event also include Adam Sandler, Amos Lee, Beck, Brandi Carlile, Dave Stewart, Eddie Vedder, The Flaming Lips, Gary Clark Jr., Jackson Browne, Jakob Dylan, Jimmy Iovine, Kieffer Sutherland, Lenny Kravitz, Lucinda Williams, Lukas Nelson, Margo Price, Marty Stuart, Olivia Harrison, Rick Rubin, Stephen Stills, Susanna Hoffs and many more, with performances and appearances on the radio special by many of these artists, plus CAAMP, Dawes, Grace Potter, Larkin Poe and many more.

The Tom Petty 70th Birthday Bash is dedicated to bringing awareness and providing support to a local Gainesville program called UF Health Shands Arts in Medicine. Donations can be made online, and contributions will help heal people in the hospital and connect them through music.

Watch the livestream beginning 7 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 23, at TomPettyBirthdayBash.com and listen on the official Top Petty Radio channel on SiriusXM beginning at 4:30 p.m. for the kickoff of this year’s special celebration.
