Preservation Alliance of West Virginia Hosting Virtual Trivia Night to Save Historical Buildings

The Preservation Alliance of West Virginia will be hosting a virtual West Virginia Trivia Night fundraiser at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

ELKINS, W.Va. — The Preservation Alliance of West Virginia will host a virtual West Virginia Trivia Night fundraiser at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, to build its new Saving Historical Places Grant fund.

The grant program is the Alliance’s newest initiative to save West Virginia’s historical places by funding emergency building repairs or to jumpstart building preservation projects. As part of its Giving Tuesday campaign, the Alliance is bringing West Virginia history fans together for a free, virtual night of interactive trivia in support of building this grant fund.

Pre-registration on EventBrite is required and can be found on the Alliance’s website at pawv.org/givingtuesday.

“We aimed to create lots of opportunities for interaction with fellow trivia buffs while staying safe in a virtual setting. It should be a great night — and it’s BYOB, of course, with snack breaks highly encouraged,” said the Preservation Alliance AmeriCorps member Virginia Shimek.

In 2020, the Alliance invested over $20,000 in technical assistance grants to save seven historical places in Greenbrier, Jefferson, Lewis, Monroe, Pocahontas, Preston and Webster counties.

“We are really excited to get together with history lovers and have some fun,” said Danielle Parker, executive director for the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia. “My hope is that we will simultaneously build awareness of the Saving Historical Places Grant program and our goal to raise $40,000, which is double what we gave out in 2020.

“We have already received a pledge in the amount of $20,000 for the 2021 grant fund and are working to match it $1 for $1.”

All donations are tax-deductible on federal income taxes, and donations of $500 or more are eligible for West Virginia NIP Tax Credits.

The Preservation Alliance of West Virginia is the statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation. It also administers the Preserve WV AmeriCorps program, a national service initiative where AmeriCorps members help main streets thrive.
