Towngate Theatre Presents Classic ‘The Quiet Man’

WHEELING — Towngate Theatre will show the 1952 American romantic comedy/drama “The Quiet Man” at 7:30 p.m. today, Friday, March 12.

The film follows retired American boxer Sean Thornton’s (John Wayne) return to the village of his birth in Ireland, where he falls for spirited redhead Mary Kate Danaher (Maureen O’Hara) whose brother is contemptuous of their union.

“The Quiet Man” won the Academy Award for best director (John Ford) and for Best Cinematography in 1953. In 2013, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for its historic, cultural and aesthetic significance.

Tickets to the movie can be purchased at the door.
