Artworks Around Town Hosts Exhibits, Watercolor Workshop This Month

‘Windmills In Holland’ — painting by Nanette Hought

WHEELING –There is a lot going on at Artworks Around Town for the month of May.

The Pittsburgh Pastel Artist League continues to display their stunning show titled “Pure Pigment” in the Studio Gallery. There are pastels galore and each one of them is as unique as the one next to it. This is a must-see exhibit. One-of-a-kind Mother’s Day gifts are available for sale. Framed originals, prints and note cards are included in their offerings.

Artworks member and watercolorist Karen Catlett is going to present a Watercolor Workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 15. There will be a break for lunch (bring your own). Catlett stated, “students will learn the brush strokes, how to lay washes, using hard and soft edges, glazing over existing washes and much more.”

Participants can be beginners, can be advanced or anywhere in between in knowledge and experience.

Students should bring: watercolor paints; brushes, 1-inch flat and rounds; paper, 140 pound or better; two containers for water; one roll of toilet paper tissues or paper towels; support board; and tape. The first five people to register attend for free because of a $100 donation received. The cost for all others is just $20. Register by calling Catlett at 304-845-0875 or email her at kcatlett601@comcast.net, or call Artworks at 304-233-7540.

Coming in June is a show featuring the students of Greg Siegwart. The June 5 event will be a free, public “critique” led by Siegwart and Bobbi Priebe. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who would like to share their work with artists who can help out or who just want to share what they do in any medium. The group that comes together about every three months has fun, is informal and beneficial to all.

Artworks is a nonprofit charitable and educational Gallery and Art Center located in Wheeling’s Historic Centre Market. Hours are from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except for Friday when closing is at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in becoming a member is encouraged to go to the website at artworks aroundtown.com.
