The Strand Theatre Preservation Society is thrilled to welcome the return of live theatre to Moundsville with its production of “Godspell the musical,” which runs at 7 p.m. July 30 and 31 and at 2 p.m. on Aug. 1.

“Godspell” took the world by storm as the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz ( whose credits include “Wicked,” “Pippen” and “Children of Eden”). The story unfolds as a group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables using a wide variety of games, storytelling and a hefty dose of comedic timing.

An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and Crucifixion, Jesus’ message of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

The cast and crew consist of artists from across the Ohio Valley. The production will be directed by Shelby Garrett, with musical direction by Justin Jones.

A portion of proceeds from the show will benefit Shepherd’s Pantry in Marshall County. Tickets are also available at Frames and Fortunes or online, and online sales close six hours prior to showtime.
