Library Celebrates With WLU West African Drum And Dance Ensemble

WHEELING — The next Lunch With Books program by the Ohio County Public Library will feature the West Liberty University African Drum & Dance Ensemble, directed by Dr. Mitch Greco.

The program will take place at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Participants are invited to come play and learn about West African music and dance. The group will be exploring instruments of the Ga ethnic group of southern Ghana, a unique music-culture that fuses idiophone timeline instruments (gankogui, double-bell and axatse rattle) with drums played with your hands (jembe and kpanlogo). Experience the participatory, improvisatory and energetic nature of the music-culture through singing, clapping, drumming and dancing.

Patrons are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing in which they can freely move around.
