WHEELING — Hi ho, Hi ho, it’s off to Towngate we go! A captivating and imaginative version of the storybook ballet “Snow White” opens Oglebay Institute’s 2021-22 children’s theater season.

A spirited retelling of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, “Snow White” is performed by Oglebay Institute’s Youth Ballet Company and features exciting choreography, spectacular sets and costumes. Five performances take place — 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 10 and Oct. 17 at Towngate Theatre.

In addition to the show, children can also enjoy a Snow White tea party with the cast prior to the matinee shows Oct. 10 and Oct. 17.

The ballet version of “Snow White,” like the fairy tale, follows Snow White on her adventure as she meets a forest full of friends, including seven spirited dwarfs who help her regain her rightful place against her jealous stepmother.

“Children can cheer on the young heroine and her prince as they foil the plots of the wicked queen,” said Oglebay Institute director of dance Cheryl Pompeo.

She added that the show brings plenty of energy, fun, suspense and new twists to this familiar classic, keeping the attention of young audiences.

“This show is a great introduction to the arts and to the joy of dance,” she said, “and it is a wonderful family activity.”

To purchase tickets for “Snow White” and for the tea party with the cast, visit OIonline.com or call 304-242-7700. Some tickets may be available at the door, but many shows will sell out.

Towngate Theatre is located at 2118 Market St. in Wheeling.
