WHEELING — Join Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore and the rest of the gang in The Hundred Acre Woods for a very special tale of friendship and growing up as Towngate Children’s Theatre continues its season of family entertainment with “The House at Pooh Corner,” which will be staged this weekend, tonight through Sunday, Nov. 5-7 at Oglebay Institute’s Towngate Theatre in Wheeling.

A.A. Milne’s classic story comes to life in this delightful production, which deals with Christopher Robin’s impending departure from The Hundred Acre Woods. Why? Because it seems “they” (meaning the grown-ups) have decided he’s ready for “Education.” Nobody knows exactly what or where that is, but if he’s sent to an unknown, distant place, what can his friends possibly do without him? So, the gang concocts and carries out plots to keep their boy home.

Oglebay Institute artistic director Dave Henderson directs the production and guides his cast into bringing these beloved characters to life. The cast includes Andrew Gadd as Christopher Robin; Will Medovic as Winnie the Pooh; Mya Bogers as Piglet; Anna Contraguerro as Eeyore; Ludovica Santini as Tigger; Grace Thompson as Kanga; Emma Thompson as Roo; Abby Young as Owl; Kara Jean Zanes as Rabbit and Audrey Kenamond as Early Rabbit.

Towngate produces and presents several children shows a year in a professional theatre setting. Titles include classics from children’s literature, folktales and fables and newer favorites to both challenge and delight a wide family audience.

“For some of our younger patrons, these shows are their first introductions to live theatre. We strive to entertain and enlighten young people from all over the Ohio Valley,” said Oglebay Institute performing arts director Tim Thompson.

He added that all the Towngate children’s shows include some type of lesson or moral. “This show highlights the importance of education, that running away from a problem is never the right answer and how friends can help each other through difficult times,” he said.

Sponsored by the Helen J. Prince Foundation, “The House at Pooh Corner” will be staged at Towngate Theatre at 7 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 5; 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7.

Part of the nonprofit Oglebay Institute, Towngate is in Wheeling’s historic Centre Market District. Towngate is a cornerstone of creative life in Wheeling and serves as an entertainment destination for residents of Wheeling, the Upper Ohio Valley and beyond. People of all ages and backgrounds gather here to create and experience art onstage. Dozens of theatrical performances, ballets, concerts, films, exhibits, classes and more take place year-round.
