WHEELING — The city of Wheeling this week announced the official schedule for its outdoor entertainment through the 2022 season — including Waterfront Wednesdays, Toe Tappin’ Tuesdays, Toe Tappin’ Tuesdays Too, First Fridays at Centre Market and the monthly Free Movie Night, which kicks off tonight.

Beginning around dusk at 9:30 p.m. today, Friday, May 27, in Warwood’s Garden Park, the first Free Movie Night of the season will feature “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” starring Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers.

Prior to the movie screening, Wheeling’s Department of Parks and Recreation will host a free evening swim from 6-9 p.m. at the Warwood Pool. There will be craft activities, free popcorn and concessions will be available for purchase.

“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” is based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Rogers and journalist Lloyd Vogel. Vogel is tasked with creating a profile of Rogers, the creator and star of the successful children’s program Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. He dutifully goes to the studio where his subject is filming his show, and soon enough, he is sitting down with him, asking him probing questions. However, Rogers seems to have a different plan in mind. The interviewee suddenly becomes the interviewer, and he starts to help the writer sent for him in unexpected ways.

To view the full summer schedule of the city-sponsored events that not only includes Waterfront Wednesdays and Movie Nights, but also Toe Tappin’ Tuesdays and Toe Tappin’ Tuesdays, Too, visit www.wheelingwv.gov/summerevents. The schedules for First Fridays at Centre Market and Third Fridays at the Plaza on Market are also listed.

Note that all programs are subject to change without notice. In case of inclement weather, concerts and/or movies may be rescheduled or cancelled. Visit the city’s website listed above or the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/WheelingWV for updates.

UPDATE: Due to inclement weather in the forecast, the free evening swim and movie night featuring “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” slated for this evening, Friday, May 27, at Warwood’s Garden Park is canceled.
