Fatal Bethlehem Shooting Investigation Continues in Ohio County
No charges have been filed to date against Leslie Howard Jones, who West Virginia State Police said shot and killed Steven Headley at Jones’ Bethlehem home on Aug. 2.
The shooting occurred at 157 Ridgecrest Road. Trooper First Class C.W. Heckler, the lead investigator on the case, released a statement Friday indicating the “investigation is still active and ongoing.”
Police received a report of the shooting at 2:19 p.m. Aug. 2. At about 3 p.m., Headley was removed from the residence and loaded into an ambulance, with medical personnel attempting to resuscitate him.
Headley was taken to the Ohio Valley Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
Heckler confirmed Jones, 77, is the owner of the home where the shooting occurred. In a previous release, Heckler stated the homeowner shot Headley.
“Pending consultation and review of the incident with the Ohio County Prosecutor’s Office, further information will be released,” Heckler said.
The original call sending responders to the home suggested there was a home invasion and shooting at Jones’ home. However, that scenario has not been confirmed by authorities.
Heckler said Friday the case is still in the investigation stage and has not yet been presented to the prosecutor’s office.
