Judge Sets Trial Dates in Ohio County

The Pennsylvania man accused of robbing a bank at The Highlands in March was among those who had his trial date set Thursday during the Ohio County Circuit Court docket day.

Aaron Hazeltine, of Perryopolis, Pa., will go to trial July 24 before Judge James Mazzone. He is accused of robbing the WesBanco branch on Cabela Drive. Hazeltine, who came from the Northern Regional Jail where he has been staying since his March 23 arrest, appeared in an orange jumpsuit.

He was arrested on Interstate 70 westbound after the bank reported a robbery in which the suspect escaped with $2,000. Hazeltine was arrested near the Elm Grove exit. He was riding with another person who police said was unaware of the situation and unaffiliated with the robbery.

Meanwhile, Treyvon Montgomery, who was arrested in April after allegedly robbing and threatening an acquaintance shortly after his release from prison on similar charges, also entered a not guilty plea to his six-count indictment. The indictment included two counts of burglary, malicious assault and wanton endangerment involving a firearm.

Montgomery’s trial date was set for Aug. 17.

Edward Shane Parr, accused of attempting to murder a North Wheeling man with a hammer in February, was previously set to undergo a mental health evaluation to determine his ability to stand trial. However, by Thursday morning, the evaluation had not yet been completed, and he was sent back to jail to await the results of the evaluation. His trial date was not set.

Prior to his arrest by Wheeling police, Parr was said to have inflicted numerous injuries to himself with a knife after warrants for his arrest were issued in January. Parr allegedly struck a North Wheeling man in the head several times with a hammer.

Others suspects who had trial dates set include Michael Newell, who was charged with two counts of first degree sexual abuse and two counts of sexual abuse by a guardian and will have a trial July 24; Todd Manning, who faces a charge of malicious assault, will go to trial Aug. 17; and Thomas Connor, facing charges of domestic battery and strangulation, will appear in court July 17.

Four unidentified men were said to remain at large on unspecified warrants.

Additionally, Eduardo Alvendia did not have a trial date set Thursday but will return at 10:45 a.m. today for a bond reduction hearing. Alvendia has remained jailed in lieu of $25,000 bond after allegedly robbing the Up on the Lane Cafe earlier this month. He has been indicted on robbery and conspiracy charges.
