Come to the Ohio County Fair During Oglebayfest

WHEELING — In conjunction with the annual Oglebayfest celebration, the Ohio County Country Fair will be held Friday through Sunday at Site 1 near the Good Zoo in the park. The fair highlights country living in Ohio County with various organizations displaying their wares and livestock.

The fair will include the following contests and competitions:

Baked Goods, Canned Goods, Flower Arrangement, Fruits & Vegetables, Needlework, Quilt Show & Contest, Pony Pull, Hitch Class, Egg Judging, Scarecrow Contest and Pumpkin Carving Contest.

Arena competitions will include hog calling, rock throwing, baby crawling, junior farm boy and farm girl, and pedal power.

The fair also hosts the West Virginia Pony Pull Championship at noon Sunday.

Two new exhibits funded by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture will be featured this year.

The West Virginia Soil Trailer serves as a soil, water and agriculture specialty crops mobile learning center. Also, the documentary “Farmers for America,” narrated by Mike Rowe (Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs”), will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday.

As in years past, the Cabin Fever String Band will perform at the country square dance held frm 7:30-9:30 p.m. Friday at the fair stage.

Bidding on baked goods will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Edgar Hooper Memorial Scholarship fund. To obtain an application for the scholarship, call the WVU Extension Office at: 304-234-3673
