Steubenville Man Arrested in String of Gas Station Robberies
A Steubenville man has been arrested in connection with four armed robberies of gas stations in Steubenville and Weirton throughout October.
Steubenville Police reported Dale Alexander, 21, of Steubenville was arrested in Follansbee with the assistance of the West Virginia State Police on Tuesday. Detectives with the Weirton and Steubenville police departments interviewed Alexander, who admitted to committing all four gas station robberies.
Steubenville Police detectives reported they were able to obtain enough information through several interviews and surveillance videos to identify Alexander.
In Steubenville, there was an armed robbery on Oct. 20 at Speedway, 2619 Sunset Blvd. Police reported the man entered the station, indicating he had a weapon in his pocket. Police reported he was wearing a red bandana over his face. Police said the man fled with cash and was pursued by officers along Chestnut Street and was last seen on Linduff Avenue.
Weirton Police reported the Oct. 13 armed robberies of the 7-11 on Pennsylvania Avenue and Sheetz on Three Springs Drive. The department also is investigating the armed robbery of BFS gas station on Freedom Way on Oct. 27.
Alexander has been charged with two counts of robbery and attempted robbery, both with a weapons specification, according to records with the Northern Regional Jail.
