Ohio Department of Transportation Project to Install New Traffic Lights in Belmont County Is Underway

The Ohio Department of Transportation is installing new traffic lights at a couple of locations in Belmont County.

The $354,325 state project got underway this week. The ODOT initiative began Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Mall Road, at the 20.5 mile marker on National Road between Stewart’s RV and Whiteside Chevy Buick GMC.

All of the old traffic lights at this interchange are being replaced with new, more energy-efficient LED traffic lights.

ODOT’s project engineer, Cody Rouse, spoke about the project. He explained that the work will impact three intersections in the region, including the one east of St. Clairsville at Mall Road and another in Bridgeport at U.S. 40 and Industrial Drive. A third intersection in Columbiana County will be upgraded with new lights as part of the same effort.

The project will be complete in mid-May, Rouse said.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were assisting with traffic control Wednesday while Cornerstone Construction worked on the installations.
