Tri-State Petroleum Corp. in Wheeling Marks 45 Years

Tri-State Petroleum Corp. in Wheeling celebrates its 45th anniversary today.

Tri-State Petroleum was formed in 1974 by Edward J. and Elizabeth J. Coyne and is presently owned and operated by their children; Sheila C. Romanek, Erin C. Merrick, Edward J. Coyne II and Colleen C. McGlinn.

The company began operations as a wholesale fuel distributor in the upper Ohio Valley. Over the years the company began operating retail gas and convenience stores. Today, they operate gas and convenience stores in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania and employ 212 people.

One of the pillars that form the basis of Tri-State Petroleum is “commitment.”

“Tri-State Petroleum has been serving the tri-state area of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia for 45 years. During this time, Tri-State Petroleum has demonstrated a commitment to community by being a responsible corporate citizen, a commitment to its customers by offering superb value and service, and a commitment to its employees by viewing them as an extension of its family,” officials said.

Over the years, Tri-State Petroleum Corp. has demonstrated this commitment by giving back to the community through several scholarship programs it participated in and sponsored. These programs included participation in the Educational Alliance Program sponsored by ExxonMobil Corp. in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Through this program, Tri-State Petroleum helped to raise funds for local schools in excess of $120,000.

In addition, Tri-State Petroleum sponsors a scholarship at The Linsly School and Wheeling Central Catholic High School.

Tri-State Petroleum also created an educational scholarship fund for the benefit of its employees.

In addition to supporting local educational institutions, Tri-State Petroleum has been an active corporate sponsor for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia).

Over the past five years, Tri-State has donated and helped to raise, with the support of its customers, in excess of $175,000 for LLS.

The Coyne family thanks all of their employees, customers and business associates for the loyal support they have received over the last 45 years and looks forward to continuing their commitment to the local area.
