Wheeling Police Department Invites Public to Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony

The Wheeling Police Department is inviting the public to attend the seventh annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 at Wheeling’s Heritage Port, in observance of National Police Week May 12-18.

The featured speaker this year is Mel Blount, former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback.

A reception for law enforcement will follow inside WesBanco Arena. In the event of rain, the ceremony will move inside the arena.

National statistics show that 163 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2018.

Any police department interested in purchasing a wreath honoring those killed in the line of duty in 2018 can do so by calling Laupp Florist Shop, 1109 Eoff St., Wheeling at 304-232-4750.

The wreath should be marked with a ribbon, indicating the name of the donating agency.

Also agencies interested in being represented at the program, parking spaces will be reserved for a marked vehicle in a designated spot along Water Street.
