Ohio Valley Medical Center has received the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award.

The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines according to the latest scientific evidence.

“Being recognized by the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines Stroke Initiative is an honor and testament to the quality care we provide to our patients at OVMC,” said Daniel C. Dunmyer, CEO of OVMC and East Ohio Regional Hospital. “The resources provided to us by the AHA help us to track and measure our success in a way that helps to improve patient outcomes. This is further testament to our commitment to provide high quality care to our community.”

OVMC earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. Before discharge, patients should also receive education on managing their health, get a follow-up visit scheduled, as well as other care transition interventions.

“It is a great honor and a privilege that OVMC is being recognized as a Gold Plus Quality Awards recipient by the Get With The Guidelines- Stroke and the American Heart Association,” said Terry Jill Bonar, stroke coordinator. “We have consistently met these guidelines for advanced stroke care for 24 consecutive months. I am incredibly proud to be a part of OVMC’s award-winning team.”
