Woman Dies In Weirton Fire

WEIRTON — A woman died as a result of an early morning fire Sunday in Weirton.

The fire at 4109 Washington St. was reported just before 3:30 a.m., said Lt. Adam Mills of the Weirton Fire Department.

Firefighters responding found the home engulfed, and homes to each side of the structure were in danger. Additional firefighters from Steubenville, Follansbee, Hooverson Heights and Hanover Township departments were called to the scene.

The remains of the female resident who lived in the home were discovered in the livingroom, and the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate the fire, according to Mills.

Officials are not yet releasing the name of the woman who died pending notification of family members.

Mills said firefighters were able to save her dog, who was at the back door.
