Jefferson County Fair King And Queen To Be Crowned

Monday’s opening ceremonies for the Jefferson County Fair will include remarks from Ray Hilderbrand, president, with Linda Daily, secretary, and Debbie Hukill, treasurer, making presentations and introductions.

The Jefferson County Veterans Association will raise the American flag and members of different organizations will carry in the Ohio and Jefferson County flags. Flags representing the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, FFA, 4-H and other organizations will be carried in by future leaders.

The ribbon will be cut by the county commissioners, fair president and noted veterans of the fair, and the 148th event will be under way.

It’s all scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the Rozsa Pavilion.

Vying for the title of fair king will be Elijah Fox and Hayden Johnson.

¯ Fox, 19, is a 10-year member of Country Kids 4-H, attended the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School and is the son of James and Neva Kay Fox. He raised grand champion and best of breed Holland Lop rabbits, and competed at the Ohio State Fair in vegetable growing and a cat project and demonstration. He plays baseball on the Miracle League baseball team.

¯ Hayden Johnson, 17, is a 12-year member of Buckeye Variety Livestock, attends Edison High School and is the son of Kurt Johnson. He received 2019 16-year-old outstanding market poultry exhibitor and overall market poultry exhibitor awards, and is Edison FFA vice president and BETA Club treasurer.

Competing for queen are:

¯ Sarah Fox, 17, a 10-year member of County Kids 4-H, who attends the Jefferson County JVS and is the daughter of Jim and Neva Kay Fox. She won multiple most outstanding cooking project awards and placed at the Ohio State Fair in dog projects.

¯ Mikayla Petrisko, 17, a 12-year member of Lucky Leaf Livestock who attends Edison High School and is the daughter of John and Kim Petrisko. She raised the reserve champion hog and had the best bred rabbit in 2018, while receiving an Eastern District softball award.

¯ Mackenzie Orban, 18, an 11-year member of Free Spirits 4-H who attends Muskingum University and is the daughter of George and Lori Orban. She will be playing basketball at Muskingum University in the fall.

¯ Krysten Mazzofero, 19, a 12-year member of 4-H who is participating as an independent and attends Ohio University. She is a National Society of Collegiate Scholars member, a leadership camp counselor, outstanding rabbit exhibitor for four years and the daughter of Matthew and Tammy Mazzaferro.

¯ Marissa Lucci, 19, an 11-year member of 4-H and now is an independent, attends West Virginia Northern Community College and is the daughter of Christina and Jaime Phillippi.

¯ Catalina Mazzaferro, 17, an 11-year member of the Lucky Leaf Livestock Club, attends Indian Creek High School and the JVS and is the daughter of Matthew and Tammy Mazzaferro. She is a four-year member of the Junior Fair, Lucky Leaf 4-H president, 2018 senior most outstanding 4-H’er and member of National Technical Honor Society.

¯ Sarah Mazzaferro, 17, a 13-year member of 4-H with the Lucky Leaf Livestock Club, attends Indian Creek High School and is the daughter of Barb and Todd Mazzaferro. She previously has received the title of most outstanding exhibitor.

¯ Samantha Glenn, 18, a member of Country Rangers 4-H, attends Eastern Gateway Community College and is the daughter of Carl and Aimee Glenn. She is the only person in the county to have been named Equine All Star for five years. She placed second and third at the Ohio State Fair; was most outstanding horse exhibitor; received the youth award for outstanding excellence; and was a camp counselor for five years.

¯ Chesney Swickard, 17, has been a member of the Country Rangers for 13 years, attends Edison High School and is the daughter of Jim and Suzie Zorbini and Bryan Parker. She was 2018 most outstanding goat exhibitor, grand champ doe and litter, FFA student adviser officer, state FFA choir and lettered in academics and choir.
