Ohio County Hiring Paramedics, EMTs

Ohio County Commissioner Don Nickerson, left, Commission President Tim McCormick and Commissioner Randy Wharton listen to comments provided by Administrator Greg Stewart during Tuesday’s meeting.

Ohio County is seeking paramedics to join the county’s coming ambulance service.

County Administrator Greg Stewart updated county commissioners Tuesday on the status of the prospective ambulance service.

He said county officials are currently seeking to hire at least six full-time paramedics or EMTs, and as many as four to work part-time. The county plans to operate two ambulance departments from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, complementing the service of other local community departments.

In other matters, commissioners approved the allocation of two requests for hotel/motel tax dollars.

They agreed to give $7,500 to the Main Street Bank Fantasy in Lights Christmas Parade sponsored by the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce happening Nov. 22, and $500 to the Tri-State Tax Institute’s continuing education event later this month.

The commissioners will next meet at 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at the City-County Building, 1500 Chapline St., Wheeling.
