Marshall County Schools Celebrating American Education Week
MOUNDSVILLE – The 12 schools in Marshall County, four secondary and eight elementary, will have planned activities during American Education Week which will take place today through Friday with “Partners in Education” and parents and grandparents invited to take part.
The theme being: “Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility.”
Some of the activities during the week will be:
Cameron Elementary will have a School Book Fair, Leader in Me Boosters and Leader in Me Habit Challenges the entire week. There will also be a school-wide Health Fair on Tuesday, AEP Read to Me Day will be Thursday, while Friday will be Grandparents Day along with a visit from Batman.
At Cameron High new books will be on display during the week, Business and Family Consumer Science will be hosting a canned food drive for Thanksgiving and a faculty appreciation luncheon. The Social Studies Department will host a daily trivia competition. The high school English Department will sponsor a winter-themed Haiku contest for students, paragraph writing contest and a school-wide vocabulary quiz contest. The Science Department will record video infomercicals created by students to play in the cafeteria. The Math Department will be conducting daily measurement estimation activities and Problem of the Day contests. The Art Club will sponsor a Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day.
Center McMechen will have a book throughout the week. The school will be holding Grandparent Days. The school be collecting food items on Monday for their pantry at Thanksgiving today. Community Appreciation Day will be observed on Tuesday. Faculty/Staff Lunch Appreciation Day will be Wednesday.
Central Elementary will be going to a Wheeling Nailers hockey game on Tuesday with the choir to sing the national anthem. Thursday will be AEP Read to Me Day. Flashlight Reading will take place on Friday.
Glen Dale Elementary will have guest readers all week along with classroom work display throughout the school and school book.
There will be Staff Appreciation Luncheons, A skating party will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Dive Into Learning Day will be held today at Hilltop Elementary with a Ocean Animal Discovery Fair. “Celebrate America Day” will be held Tuesday and will include Veterans/Active Military program at 1:30. “Celebrate Green Day” will be Wednesday, “Celebrate Our Community Day” will be Thursday and “Celebrate Husky School Spirit Day” will be Friday.
During the week John Marshall High will have a canned food drive sponsored by the Student Council/LEO Club, a Fall Scholarship Blood Drive, Veterans Day, “Red, White and Blue Day,” “Brown and Gold Day,” “Problem of the Day” sponsored by the Math Department.
“Special Persons Day” will be observed at McNinch Primary today, while others will be: “Special Persons Day” on Tuesday, on Wednesday there will be a Parent-Teacher Conference and “Family Night” at the Book Fair, there will be a Thanksgiving Lunch on Thursday and a Spirit Day on Friday.
All week at Moundsville Middle School there will be Trivia Questions asked to students and students, along with facts about Mental Health. A salute to teachers will take place today, and a salute to service personnel on Wednesday. A Talent Show will be held on Thursday, and an Organized Dance on Friday.
Guest reades from the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library will be at Sand Hill Elementary today. Gratitude Day will be on Tuesday, while Special Person’s Day will take place on Wednesday. AEP guest readers will be at the school on Thursday, while Friday will be school “Spirit Day.”
Sherrard Middle will have Parent/Teacher conferences on Tuesday from 4-6 p.m., and also a Book Fair will be held that evening. There will be a U.S. Attorney’s Office Vaping at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. There will be a “Special Persons Luncheon,” a LEO bake sale and a “Pie a Teacher” fundraiser all on Thursday.
Washington Lands Elementary will have a Scholastic Book throughout the week, and also, Veterans Memorial Displays. Monday will be “Community Pride Day,” “School Pride Day” will be Tuesday, “Special Persons Day,” on Wednesday, and “Superhero Day” on Friday.
