Ohio County Courthouse Work Progressing

Ohio County Administrator Greg Stewart, left, updates commissioners as Solicitor Donald Tennant also listens.

WHEELING – Work to update the security area at the main entrance to the City-County Building in Wheeling is progressing, according to Ohio County Administrator Greg Stewart.

Stewart updated commissioners on the work, telling them it is currently “about 30 percent complete.” He expects the work to be done by Dec. 15.

“We’ve done some demolition work,” Stewart said. “At 5 a.m. (today) we will start installing the new lights. “

In other matters, commissioners approved the allocation of hotel-motel tax money to the following organizations:

* Hoorah 2 Heroes, $6,500 for a race to benefit the Augusta Levy Center

* North Wheeling Youth Center basketball game, $1,250. Proceeds benefit the Christmas distribution event at Bethlehem Apostolic Temple.

* Oglebay Foundation Ease to Access Program, $10,000 to help children not financially able to experience events at Oglebay Park.

* The YMCA-Worthy Family Program, $2,000 to assist underpriviledged children.

The commissioners will oversee the special election Saturday for an Ohio County Schools excess levy. They will meet for a canvass of votes at 9 a.m. Nov. 15.

The commissioners will next meet in regular session at 6 p.m. on Nov. 19.
