Straub Automotive Partners with Mothers Against Drunk Driving

Straub Automotive employees, member of the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department, MADD representives and members of the public joined in Wednesday’s Tie One On campaign at the Straub dealership.

TRIADELPHIA – The Wheeling Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving once again partnered with Straub Automotive for its annual Tie One On For Safety initiative on Wednesday evening.

Started in 1986, Tie One On For Safety is MADD’s longest running and most visible public awareness project. The name comes from the phrase “tie one on,” which is slang for drinking alcohol. But at MADD, the phrase is used to remind the public that drinking and driving don’t mix.

Some of the most dangerous days of the year on roadways are between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. Deaths resulting from drunk driving represent over 25 percent of total traffic fatalities during this time of year. To heighten public awareness, every holiday season from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, MADD encourages all drivers to display a MADD red ribbon in a visible location on their vehicles to remind others to always designate a non-drinking driver.

This year’s campaign kicked off on Wednesday at the Straub Nissan dealership building adjacent to The Highlands in Ohio County. Red ribbons were given to everyone to kick off the holiday season safely. Brian Fato, executive manager of Straub Automotive, joined Sheriff Tom Howard, several deputies, Straub employees, members of the public and Jody Miller and family. Miller heads up the local MADD chapter.

Founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, Mothers Against Drunk Driving is the nation’s largest non-profit working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking. And as one of the largest victim services organizations in the U.S., MADD supports drunk driving victims and survivors at no charge.

Straub Automotive has been serving the automotive needs of Wheeling and surrounding communities in the Ohio Valley for over 75 years. The local family-owned company owns and operates the Straub Honda, Hyundai and Nissan new and used car dealerships located in Triadelphia just off I-70 across from The Highlands, as well as Straub’s Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram new and used dealerships located at 1502 Wheeling Ave., in Glen Dale and 2638 National Road in Wheeling, as well as the Straub Ford dealership in Moundsville.
