Hotel Evacuated; Threat Proves Unfounded

WHEELING – The Springhill Suites Hotel was evacuated late Saturday night as police investigated a threat that proved to be unfounded.

Philip Stahl, public information officer for the Wheeling Police Department, said at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, the Ohio County 911 center received a threatening phone call that was directed toward the Springhill Suites Hotel. The hotel is located on a hilltop above National Road in Woodsdale.

“The male caller made a threat that was concerning to police. As a result, we evacuated the hotel and searched every room,” Stahl said. “The threat was unfounded and guests were able to go back inside after 3 a.m. (Sunday).”

Police are still investigating the call and trying to determine who made it and if it were a local call, he said.
