Indoor Pool Still Planned for John Marshall
GLEN DALE – Marshall County Schools still plans to construct an indoor swimming pool on a site that now houses WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital’s outpatient psychiatric offices.
The hospital’s new outpatient psychiatric program opened Monday in a building at 1000 Wheeling Ave., Glen Dale. The office complex housed an independent physician previously, but the property is owned by the county school system.
“Marshall County Schools has entered into a short-term lease with WVU Reynolds Memorial Hospital to use the district-owned property adjacent to John Marshall High School, in the northwest corner of the student parking lot,” said Mike Price, facilities director for the school district.
“The lease will be in effect while the county works through the planning and designing phases of the natatorium project. The money collected from the lease will be used to pay for demolition of the current building and site preparation,” Price said regarding plans for the property.
Currently, Reynolds has a one-year lease on the property, said Karin Janiszewski, the hospital’s director of corporate communications and public relations.
A permanent location for Reynolds’ outpatient psychiatric program has not been announced.
An inpatient behaviorial medicine unit is set to open in late summer or early fall on the fifth floor of the hospital, which is located at 800 Wheeling Ave.
Reynolds is implementing psychiatric services to fill a gap created by the closure of Ohio Valley Medical Center. Services at OVMC’s Hillcrest unit in Wheeling ceased when the medical center closed in September.
