Wheeling Woman Charged in Stabbing Last Week
WHEELING – A woman faces felony charges after allegedly stabbing a man in Wheeling last week.
Francina Zervos, 58, of Wheeling, was charged with malicious wounding after allegedly stabbing a man several times around 11 p.m. last Wednesday.
The victim was found by police with four knife wounds to his arm, according to court documents.
The man was reluctant to divulge information to police, but his girlfriend said the man and Zervos had been in their apartment when the stabbing occurred.
Zervos was described as an “old friend” of the victim, who was attempting to help her, as Zervos was apparently drunk at the time.
An argument between the two broke out.
The apartment owner said Zervos began insulting her before pulling out a pocket knife, allegedly saying she was going to “cut her throat.”
Zervos allegedly lunged at the other woman, swinging with the knife, before the victim stepped between the two of them, taking multiple stab wounds in the process.
Police responded and found a bloody knife in Zervos’ purse, leading to her arrest.
She was arrested early Thursday morning and taken to the Northern Regional Jail, where she is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond.
Court records indicate that she has a plea hearing scheduled for Monday at 10:30 a.m.
