Work Continues on ‘Dough Boy’ Memorial at Wheeling Park
Justin Gallagher from Randall L. Gallagher Memorials Inc., applies a cleaning solution to the base of the Dough Boy monument at Wheeling Park on Friday. The company is donating its services to cleaning the base in preparation for the return of the Dough Boy statue which is being restored in Detroit. Gallagher said the special solution comes from Vermont where the company also gets their granite. It’s the first time the monument has been professionally cleaned since its installation in 1931. Also shown is Raymond Purtiman, an employee of the Gallagher business. The monument is tentatively scheduled to be rededicated on Veterans Day, Nov. 11 of this year.
