Accused Sex Offender Among Marshall County Indictments
MOUNDSVILLE — A light case load for the July grand jury includes a man charged with 16 counts of sex crimes.
In July, a grand jury indicted 13 people for the coming term of court. Among them was Daniel Williams, who was arrested in February and initially charged with one count of sexual abuse and one count of first degree sexual assault.
Prosecutor Rhonda Wade said the initial charges were dropped for reasons she called “strategic,” and Williams was later brought up on a direct indictment, charging him with six counts of sexual abuse, two counts of first degree sexual abuse, eight counts of sexual assault of varying degrees, and one count of soliciting a minor via computer.
Police were made aware of Williams when a Marshall County school resource officer was approached by a child in April 2019, who alleged that Williams had been sexually abusing her since she was 5 years old. According to the alleged victim, Williams continued the sexual abuse for years, threatening to “impregnate” her if she told anyone, among numerous other illicit acts. She was later said to be receiving therapy, and suffers from constant paranoia, according to police.
Williams was called for a voluntary interview and allegedly admitted to requesting nude photographs of the child, but denied the sexual abuse. He allegedly failed a voice stress test, indicating deception during the interview.
