WHEELING – A suspect has been arrested and accused of arson after a fire Monday night destroyed a house on Wheeling Island.

Firefighters were called to 37 S. Penn St. shortly after 10 p.m. when flames and smoke were seen coming from the house by neighbors.

As firefighters arrived, the fire began to spread rapidly through the upper floors and the roof area.

Neighbors reported to police they saw a man inside the house just after the fire started. Police were able to identify the suspect on a home video surveillance and make an arrest.

Jason Reno Kincannon, 24, of Wheeling, is charged with first-degree arson. He was taken to the Northern Regional Jail awaiting his arraignment.

Firefighters continued to work to extinguish the fire through the early morning hours Tuesday. No one was hurt and the investigation into the fire continues. The house appears to be destroyed, firefighters said.
